Dear First Grade Families,
It is hard to believe that we have already finished up three weeks of school and that we are just now having our first FULL week!
First graders have been very busy over the last week or so. Here is an update on some of the things we have been doing:
In writing workshop, we have been collecting ideas for small moment stories. We brainstormed lists of people, places, activities, and holidays that we love. Today we shared our writing folders with a partner. Students had so many stories to share!
In reading workshop, we have been working to build our reading stamina. We also started to learn how to read with a partner. I have been meeting with individual students to assess various reading skills. I hope to finish reading with all of the children by the end of the week so that we can get all of them started on Raz-Kids. I am waiting to give out the log-ins since I have not yet read with all students and therefore have not yet adjusted their levels. Hopefully by next week, we will get on the iPads for Raz-Kids!
We also started Word Study this week. We are getting started with a simple rhyming sort with /at/ and /an words.
In math workshop last week, we spent time learning about each other's birthdays and organizing them in sequence. We also took two pre-tests (show-what-you-knows). Our class worked so hard! This week we will be learning some new fun math games that we will play all year long!
In social studies, we brainstormed our hopes for first grade and created our classroom rules. We have also been talking about ways to be a good citizen. We will begin to use the SeeSaw app to post all of the fun learning that we do. More information will be presented about the app at back to school night.
Please keep the following upcoming dates marked on your calendar:
Have a great week!
